Für Fernando Alonso: McLaren kooperiert beim Indy 500 mit Carlin

McLaren spannt für Fernando Alonsos zweiten Auftritt bei den 500 Meilen von Indianapolis mit dem Chevrolet-Team von Trevor Carlin zusammen

Nachdem Fernando Alonsos bei seinem Indy-500-Debüt vor zwei Jahren einen von McLaren gebrandeten, aber von Andretti Autosport eingesetzten Dallara-Honda fuhr, wird der zweimalige Formel-1-Weltmeister beim diesjährigen Indy 500 am 26. Mai einen Dallara-Chevrolet fahren, den McLaren in Kooperation mit Carlin einsetzt.

Die neue Zusammenarbeit wurde bislang noch nicht offiziell bestätigt, ist nach Informationen der US-Tageszeitung 'IndyStar' aber in trockenen Tüchern. Sinn ergibt sie insofern, da das seit 2018 auf Vollzeitbasis in der IndyCar-Serie startende Carlin-Team mit Chevrolet-Power fährt.

Andretti Autosport hingegen ist eines der großen Honda-Teams im Feld und kommt aus diesem Grund für eine erneute Zusammenarbeit mit McLaren und Alonso nicht in Frage. Dass Alonso sein zweites Indy 500 mit einem Chevrolet-Motor in Angriff nehmen wird, steht bereits seit Monaten fest.

Max Chilton ist im 2019er-IndyCar-Programm von Carlin der einzige Stammfahrer, der für die gesamte Saison gesetzt ist. Das zweite Auto teilen sich nach aktuellem Stand der Dinge Charlie Kimball und R.C. Enerson. Dank der Kooperation mit McLaren und Starpilot Alonso tritt Carlin beim Indy 500 quasi als Drei-Wagen-Team auf. Gebaut wird Alonsos Auto aber von McLaren.

Wie schon bei seinem Indy-500-Debüt im Mai 2017, so darf Alonso wieder auf die Expertise von Gil de Ferran zählen. Der CART-Champion von 2000 und 2001 sowie Indy-500-Sieger von 2003 ist seit geraumer Zeit Sportdirektor bei McLaren und in dieser Funktion stark in das Indy-Projekt involviert.

Und noch eine bekannte IndyCar-Größe wird im Monat Mai mit Alonso zusammenarbeiten: Scott Goodyear, der das Indy 500 zweimal auf P2 abgeschlossen hat, fungiert als Spotter für den Spanier und steht Alonso somit über Funk mit wichtigen Verkehrsinformationen in der jeweils aktuellen Session zur Seite.

Die Sponsoren für Alonsos zweiten Angriff auf den Sieg beim Indy 500 will McLaren in naher Zukunft bekanntgeben. Die ersten Runden im Dallara-Chevrolet wird der zweimalige Formel-1-Weltmeister, Sieger der 24 Stunden von Le Mans 2018 und frischgebackene Sieger der 24 Stunden von Daytona 2019 bereits Ende April drehen. Am 24. April nämlich steht auf dem Indianapolis Motor Speedway ein offizieller IndyCar-Testtag auf dem Programm.
