Jetzt ist es offiziell: Kurt Busch dockt für die NASCAR-Cup-Saison 2019 bei Ganassi an. Er übernimmt dort das Fahrzeug mit der Startnummer 1, das zuletzt von Jamie McMurray bewegt wurde. Seinen Sponsor Monster Energy nimmt Busch gleich mit, weshalb es ein neues Paint-Scheme am Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 gibt.

Mit 40 Jahren zählt Busch zur älteren Fahrergeneration im NASCAR-Cup-Feld – und er wagt nun noch einmal einen Markenwechsel: Nach zuletzt zwei Saisons mit Ford-Autos startet der Cup-Champion von 2004 künftig wieder mit Chevrolet-Power, wie schon in den Jahren 2012 bis 2016 bei Phoenix, Furniture Row und Stewart-Haas.

Der ältere der beiden Busch-Brüder hat seit 2000 bereits über 600 Rennen in der NASCAR-Königsklasse bestritten und dabei 30 Siege erzielt. Seit 2014 gelang ihm bisher in jeder Saison mindestens ein Rennerfolg. Das Jahr 2018 beschloss Busch als Playoff-Teilnehmer auf Rang sieben in der Cup-Gesamtwertung.

Wer Busch bei Stewart-Haas ersetzt, ist bislang noch unklar. Allerdings gilt der Mexikaner Daniel Suarez nach seinem Aus bei Gibbs-Toyota als Anwärter auf das nun freie Cockpit neben Aric Almirola, Clint Bowyer und Kevin Harvick, die für 2019 bereits gesetzt sind.
